Japanese airline giant Japan Airlines Co. Ltd. (JAL) has announced
that it will launch nine trial chartered flights from
Osaka
to Sanya, China's southernmost city of
Hainan Island, in the second half of this year.
JAL has started promoting the chartered tourist flights through
its own travel agencies, said Hideki Moriyama, vice president of
JAL's branch in Asia and Oceania, during his recent working visit to
Hainan.
Akinobu Shidata, deputy general manager of passenger's sales
planning and marketing of JAL's China Region, said his company had
great interest in the Hainan market.
Japanese are the third largest group of foreign tourists to the
tropical island. Some 27,000 Japanese travelers came to Hainan last
year, a 56.7 percent increase year-on-year.
Chen Yao, deputy director of the provincial tourism bureau, said
that diving and surfing are the most favored activities by Japanese
tourists. He urged local travel agencies to design more appealing
tourist products and services for Japanese visitors.
JAL currently operates round-trip flights to 11 Chinese mainland
cities and three flights to
Hong Kong and
Taiwan.
