Glam Rocks at Palace
|
|
Travel to London
- London is a cosmopolitan mixture of the Third and First Worlds, of chauffeurs
and beggars, of the establishment, the avowedly working class and the
avant-garde. |
|
London has a glam new tourist attraction for seven weeks, until
September 24.
Buckingham Palace's State Rooms feature an exhibition of 80 dresses
and priceless gems worn by the Queen from the 1940s on.
The visitors' route includes the Throne Room, a gallery with works
by Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto and Van Dyck, the State Dining Room,
overlooking the 39-acre gardens at the back of the Palace, and a
long Marble Hall, lined with classical Canova statues.
As for the dresses, the message is that, like other parts of the
British establishment, the Royals were at their glammest and most
gracious in the mid-Fifties, when the Queen's outfits left other
celebs in her wake.
For advance tickets - £14, £12.50 for senior citizens/students, £8
for under-17s - tel: 0207 766 7300. |
