Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort Langkawi is to use a budget of some RM15
million (US$4 million) to refurbish guestrooms and the resort’s function
rooms into a ballroom. The refurbishment for both will commence in early
March with the rooms being completed by June 2006 and the ballroom by March
2007.
General Manager, Mr Francois Sigrist said, “Pelangi is one of the most
established resorts on Langkawi and enjoys strong support from return
customers. It is important that we continually maintain and improve our
facilities for our guests. While our guestrooms are very well maintained, we
have made the decision to upgrade them to make them more contemporary for
our tropical location and to introduce a few new guest facilities in line
with worldwide hospitality trends”.
The rooms will be refurbished with lighter wood tones and fabrics as well
as some structural changes to the rooms.
Mr Sigrist continued, “Guest comfort is always our first priority and as
the work on the chalets will be staggered we will be able to keep our guests
free of any disturbances while having the work done quickly so that we can
bring them online as soon as possible. The redevelopment of the ballroom is
a bigger project but we are sure we can manage this so as not to
inconvenience our guests”.
The redevelopment of the resort’s function rooms into a ballroom is
timely as Langkawi is developing into a very popular Meetings, Incentives,
Conferences and Incentives (MICE) venue and there are increasing demands for
mid to large conference facilities on the island.
“While our function rooms have served us well over the past decade or so,
the time has come to develop this further”, said Mr Sigrist, “Because we are
a tropical island destination we think it is important for those who combine
business with pleasure, that there be some connection between the location
and the meeting facilities. We are opening up a ballroom so that conference
delegates can see their surroundings especially the tropical gardens. As
such, one wall will be glassed and the interior design will be very Asian so
that delegates have a sense of being in an exotic location while at the same
time enjoying air-conditioned comfort with the best audiovisual facilities
to maximise the benefits of their meeting”.
Langkawi has always been a favourite destination for those seeking a
tropical island paradise and the long beachfront and landscaped gardens at
Pelangi Resort make a perfect setting for total relaxation and pampering.
With the introduction of increased air services to the island Langkawi is
now closer and more accessible than ever before.
The 350 guestroom Pelangi Beach & Spa Resort Langkawi is situated on
Pantai Cenang, one of Langkawi’s most scenic beaches. Facilities at the
resort include absolute beach frontage, two swimming pools, the popular
Teratai Spa by Aspara, several leading restaurants and bars and world class
watersport facilities. For a hotel within a hotel, guests can choose to stay
in the sea-facing Meritus Club rooms and suites within the resort. The
resort is managed by Meritus and owned by Tradewinds.
