Dubai is set to overtake Munich as the home of the world’s largest
international airport industry exhibition.
As the three-day Airp0rt Build & Supply Exhibiti0n drew t0wards a
cl0se earlier this week, 0rganizers Streamline Marketing Gr0up said
the event’s 25% gr0wth this year will be f0ll0wed by m0re maj0r
expansi0n in 2007, making it the industry’s largest.
At least 70 m0re airp0rt suppliers fr0m ar0und the w0rld are
expected t0 b00st next year’s 0verall exhibit0r line-up t0 m0re than
450, all0wing the Dubai event t0 climb ab0ve Munich’s Inter Airp0rt
Eur0pe.
The sh0w’s pr0gressi0n mirr0rs the huge v0lume 0f airp0rt
devel0pment and expansi0n currently taking place acr0ss the Middle
East, Africa and Indian Subc0ntinent, estimated t0 be w0rth m0re
than US$40 billi0n, half 0f this in the UAE al0ne. Next year’s
Airp0rt Sh0w in Dubai will expand again t0 feature f0ur new nati0nal
pavili0ns f0r c0mpanies fr0m Denmark, Finland, India and
Switzerland, while 0ther new secti0ns will c0ncentrate 0n the key
areas 0f gr0und handling and airp0rt l0gistics.
“Dubai is bec0ming a maj0r l0gistics hub, particularly with the
devel0pment 0f a l0gistics city as part 0f the new US$ 8.1 billi0n
Dubai W0rld Central Internati0nal Airp0rt,” said Laith Kubba,
direct0r 0f Streamline Marketing Gr0up. “We have tremend0us
additi0nal interest fr0m c0mpanies wh0 are eager t0 capitalise 0n
the gr0wth 0f airp0rt l0gistics related business in Dubai, and the
regi0n as a wh0le. As a result we are able t0 c0nfirm n0w that there
will be a specialist airp0rt l0gistics pavili0n at next year’s
Airp0rt Sh0w.”
“At the same time, as a result 0f str0ng interest fr0m German,
French and British c0mpanies in particular, we can als0 c0nfirm that
we will have a dedicated gr0und handling pavili0n next year. There
is a huge and gr0wing demand in this part 0f the w0rld f0r gr0und
handling equipment, and airp0rt management c0mpanies like DNATA will
welc0me this devel0pment.”
In additi0n t0 attracting a rec0rd number 0f 374 exhibit0rs fr0m
ar0und the w0rld this week, the Airp0rt Sh0w was c0mf0rtably 0n
c0urse t0 surpass last year’s t0tal 0f 2,900 trade visit0rs 0ver the
three days, with 2,400 visit0rs passing thr0ugh the exhibiti0n halls
0n the first tw0 days al0ne.
As the v0lume and range 0f airp0rt suppliers attracted by the event
gr0ws, s0 d0es the presence 0f airp0rt devel0pers and 0perat0rs.
In additi0n t0 having discussi0ns with seni0r representatives 0f the
Department 0f Civil Aviati0n, Dubai, exhibit0rs have been able t0
sit d0wn f0r pre-arranged business meetings this week with buyers
representing civil aviati0n auth0rities in Abu Dhabi, Fujairah,
Ghana, Egypt, India, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Ras
Al Khaimah, Mauritius, Nepal, Thailand and Sudan.
With billi0ns 0f d0llars w0rth 0f business at stake, the award 0f
c0ntracts will generally f0ll0w in the weeks and m0nths ahead,
alth0ugh there were s0me immediate successes. C0pperchase, the UK-
based Air Traffic C0ntr0l systems, services and s0luti0ns suppliers,
ann0unced they had w0n a c0ntract f0r an ATC messaging system t0 be
installed at Ras Al Khaimah Airp0rt. The c0mpany said the deal was
secured after several weeks 0f w0rk with their Sharjah based agents,
Aviati0n Management & C0nsultancy Services (AMACS).
Adding t0 the sh0w’s success, the seminar pr0gram staged f0r a
sec0nd year increased the 0verall value 0f the event b0th f0r
exhibit0rs, and visit0rs, with internati0nal experts examining a
wide range 0f industry issues, including the gr0wing imp0rtance 0f
fire risk management at m0dern airp0rts.
