Kuala Lumpur is gearing itself up to stage one of the world’s
biggest medical conferences later this year. The triennial congress
of the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO)
will be held in Kuala Lumpur from November 5-10, 2006 and is
expected to attract some 8,000 participants from around the world.
At the end of the special early-bird registration period on June
15, some 5,000 participants had registered and organisers said they
were on target to reach their goal and to ensure FIGO 2006 is one of
the largest congresses ever organised in Kuala Lumpur.
Spokesperson for the Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) and
Group Managing Director for AOS Conventions & Events Sdn Bhd, Mr
Anthony Wong said, “We are encouraged that some 5,000 participants
from 118 countries have already registered and I think that we are
on target for attaining our goal of attracting some 8,000
participants to this all important medical congress. Eight years ago
the Obstetrical and Gynaeological Society of Malaysia (OGSM)
assisted by AOS Conventions and Events initiated the process of
bidding for the congress and mobilised our forces, along with those
of our partners, to convince the FIGO members that Kuala Lumpur was
capable of staging such a prestigious event.”
Mr Peter Brokenshire, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre General
Manager, said that the centre was well prepared to handle a
conference of the size of FIGO 2006. “FIGO 2006 will be the biggest
conference to date for the convention centre but we have both the
hardware and the software in place to handle such large and
prestigious events.”
Mr Brokenshire continued, “We have the perfect location to stage
international conventions in that we are situated in a prime
downtown location, within walking distance of many world class
hotels and adjacent to the prestigious shopping, entertainment,
dining and recreational precinct centred on the Petronas Twin
Towers. Congress delegates will be able to see these delightful
attractions as well as meet in one of the best convention centres in
the world”. |
