A pioneering French travel trade group is on its way to
Australia for
a fact-finding tour to encourage more French travellers to come and
experience the attractions of Western Australia, the Northern
Territory, north Queensland and New South Wales.
As
Australia’s largest and leading hotel group in the Asia Pacific
region, Accor – a French owned company – is sponsoring the most
influential French tourism group to visit Australia in decades.
The seven French representatives from Australie Tours, the
largest direct seller of tourism to Australia, are arriving in
Western Australia in late April and will travel for 10 days taking
in
Perth, Kununurra, Katherine,
Darwin,
Sydney and
Cairns.
They will take in Kakadu National park in a 4WD tour, and the
surrounding attractions from Katherine and Darwin, before travelling
on to Cairns and the
Great Barrier Reef.
While the emphasis on adventure, the sophisticated urban
attractions of Sydney and Perth will also be ‘test driven’. In
Sydney, they will stay at the Sofitel Wentworth, which was launched
with one of France’s most famous entertainment icons – the Moulin
Rouge – as the star attraction.
Joining them for the duration of the trip is a
journalist from France’s leading travel magazine Le Quotidien du
Tourisme, and he will send daily trip reports back to French papers
and magazines.
The tour follows on from the recent announcement of a new $70
million marketing campaign by Tourism Australia, which will debut in
Europe
later this year.
For the French, the natural beauty of Australia is calling, and
with Accor the most familiar name in hospitality in the French
market, the company believes there is enormous potential to grow the
high-yielding market.
