The Peninsula Hotels has announced a comprehensive spa program highlighted
by the upcoming launch of new spas at two of its Asian properties in 2006
and major renovations at two of its US hotel spas. New Peninsula Spas will
debut at
The Peninsula Hong Kong and
The
Peninsula Bangkok, leveraging the expertise of international spa
consultancy ESPA, headed by renowned spa authority Susan Harmsworth.
The
Peninsula Hotels is working closely with ESPA to develop a unique spa
concept at its hotels in Asia. ESPA will provide spa-design services,
assistance in training, recruitment and selection of spa management staff
and develop exclusive treatments and products for the two new Peninsula
Spas. ESPA-branded products will be the preferred product line carried in
these Peninsula Spas, while treatments will draw upon Eastern and Western
wellness and relaxation philosophies, emphasizing a back-to-basics approach
with authentic, “no gimmicks” treatments delivered by highly trained
therapists.
The first Peninsula Spa by ESPA will debut at
The Peninsula Hong Kong in May 2006 and will be designed by Henry
Leung of Chhada Siembieda Leung Ltd., acclaimed for his recent renovation of
the Four Seasons Hotel in New York City. The new 11,000-square-foot spa will
be built on two floors of the hotels’ tower and will offer sweeping views of
Victoria Harbour. The Spa will feature 14 treatment rooms, including:
- four rooms with floor-to-ceiling harbor views
- two “spas within a spa” – private suites for VIPs or couples
- domed hamman-style steam rooms for men and women
- saunas overlooking the harbor for both men and women
- snail-shaped aromatherapy “experience showers”
- tea lounge and relaxation rooms
To ensure an environment of tranquility, all of the treatment rooms have
been designed to eliminate sound and competing scents from other rooms, and
even the air-conditioning systems are being isolated to minimize any
potential distractions. All of the rooms will be multi-functional to
accommodate both facial and body treatments. Treatments at the spa will draw
on the healing traditions of both Asian and Western cultures, including
Chinese herbalism, ayurveda and phytotherapy.
In December 2006,
The
Peninsula Bangkok will unveil a full-service resort spa that will be
built amid lush gardens in a three-story Thai colonial-style building
overlooking the Chao Praya River. The spa will feature 18 treatment rooms,
including:
- two “personal spa” VIP suites with river views and kang beds for
lounging
- two rooms with private gardens
- four couples’ rooms with vitality pools and balconies overlooking the
river
- tea lounge
- relaxation rooms with river views
In September 2007, the brand-new Peninsula Tokyo will open,
overlooking the gardens of the Imperial Palace. Offering the largest hotel
rooms in the city, the hotel will also feature an extensive Asian spa.
In the United
States, The Peninsula Beverly Hills’ spa will re-launch in January
2006, following an extensive renovation, and emerge with a completely
new look, new treatment menu and an additional 1,000 square feet of space.
Designed by Darrell Schmitt Design Associates, who did the interiors at
Calistoga Ranch in Napa Valley, Esperanza Resort in Cabo San Lucas, and
other award-winning resorts, the spa will be managed by The Peninsula
Hotels.
The Peninsula Chicago will unveil a renovation of its rooftop spa
in March 2006. Encased in floor-to-ceiling windows on the top two
floors of the hotel, the spa will showcase new VIP treatment rooms,
manicure/pedicure room and new relaxation lounge.
