Nghe An province, 300 km from Hanoi, is situated in the northern part of the
central region, along the route of the transnational railway and highway.
The province boasts an international sea port and a highway linking
Vietnam,
Laos and
Thailand in the West-East
corridor, which is important for economic and tourism development.
In Nghe An, there are five major tourism destinations: Nam Dan, the home
village of President Ho Chi Minh; Cua Lo Beach; Pu Mat National Park with
its precious fauna and flora; the Quy Chau-Que Phong ecological, historical
and cultural area, characterised by the seductive wooden houses of the Thai
ethnic minority people; and the city of Vinh.
Visiting Nghe An, one cannot resist going to the Chua and Sen villages,
the native land of President Ho Chi Minh’s father and mother. On Dai Hue
Mountain is located the tomb of Hoang Thi Loan, Uncle Ho’s mother. There are
also the tomb and a temple dedicated to King Mai Hac De, who led the people
to defeat the northern invaders in the eight century. Tourists also have a
chance to see the thatched house of Phan Boi Chau, a famous revolutionary
and cultural activist in early 20th century.
Vice Chairperson of the Nam Dan district People’s Committee Le Thi Hang
said, "Nam Dan is a major tourist destination in Nghe An province. The Nghe
An Tourism Year 2005 will include the celebrations of President Ho Chi
Minh’s 115th birth anniversary and we are well-prepared for the event.
Recreational centres, restaurants, hotels, and publications have been
promoting the area’s tourism."
This year, Nghe An hopes to welcome 1.2 million visitors and earn about
US$19 million from tourism. A series of festivals and ecological and seaside
tours are being promoted with a spotlight on Tourism Week, returning to
President Ho Chi Minh’s native land on his birthday on May 19th. In
addition, workshops, fairs and exhibitions to display local specialties will
be held. Provincial leaders consider this year’s activities as laying a
foundation to turn tourism into a key industry.
"Tourism programmes for this year and some other important projects
designed for the next four years will give a facelift to Nghe An’s tourism
industry," said Secretary of Nghe An Party Committee Le Doan Hop. "We expect
to develop Nghe An into a major tourist destination in Vietnam and the
region."
Major tourist sites in Nghe An have been included in tour programmes of
large travel agents in and outside Vietnam. The province is co-operating
with the Vietnam Tourism Administration to promote its tours in Thailand,
Laos and China and hopes to become a frequent destination for foreign
visitors.
