I love Florence in the spring time
Shortly after landing in Rome's Fiumicino airport, it will hit you like a
ton of cobblestones: You're in Italy. Simply being in Italy is surreal.
Walking around, the images that you've seen in photos and films literally
come to life. The sites and people aren't extremely extravagant, but there
is an abiding sensation that you are in a different world. |
undiscovered jewels
What interesting places are undiscovered by the American tourist? I sigh
with despair when I'm asked that, as I frequently am. But then I gamely
attempt to answer travel's most difficult question by offering: |

Vienna, Austria - Viennese
Waltzes
I really hope you like chocolate. And I really hope you’re not on a diet.
The Viennese do a lot of things well – art and music, for example – but what
they do best of all is food. Everybody says that France is the culinary
heart of Europe. Don’t believe a word of it: I’d rather have a good honest
wienerschnitzel and rosti than any of the fancy creations of Parisian haute
cuisine. |
