Garmisch-Partenkirchen
The resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is situated in an altitude of
2362 feet at the foot of the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. Thanks
to its situation it is easily accessible from
Munich.
The whole area extends
between 2296 and 9284 feet and contains 38 lifts, 43 slopes and two
boarderparks.
The highlight is the
“Zugspitz Area”, Germany’s highest ski area, where skiing is possible
from November to May. The Zugspitz Glacier can be reached by a long, but
picturesque train journay in the rack railway or more quickly by cablecar.
The area offers a good mix of terrain: off piste ski, steeper bowl skiing
and gladed runs on the lower slopes.
The “Classic Area” with its 37
kilometres of ski terrain in total attracts with its scenic surroundings and
the choice between different terrains. The two world famous ski runs Olympia
and Kandahar, both location of the annual World Cup Race, are epuiped with
snow making facilities. Numerous Alpine huts invite for a stop.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen offers hotels of all
categories and also an attractive nightlife. The numerous restaurants
and inns, the movies and the casino promise good après-ski.
