Turkey
has become the leading country in tourism industry. The World Tourism
Organization (UNWTO) announced that the number of tourists visiting Turkey
rose 15 folds in 25 years. According to the latest numbers, 19,207,466
arrivals were recorded from January to October 2005, up 21.7 percent
compared to the same period of 2004.
The biggest increase was recorded by
Sweden with 44,773 arrivals (up 62
percent), Denmark with 32,486 (up 60 percent) and
Spain with 16,192 visitors
(up 57 percent) between January and October 2005.
In October alone international visitors to Turkey were 2,107,219 - up 14
percent compared to the same month of 2004.
According to a study announced at the General Assembly of UNWTO, held in
Dakar, Turkey is prone to be the most attractive tourist destination in the
next ten years, and Turkey's tourism will grow 10.2 percent in this period.
