Tiger Airways, Singapore's low fare airline, has received permission from
the Singapore aviation authorities to fly daily services to
Cambodia and intends to
start flying on this route shortly.
This will add the seventh country to Singapore's largest and most popular
low fare airline which is currently flying to 10 cities in six countries (Singapore,
Thailand,
Vietnam,
Macau SAR, The
Philippines and Indonesia).
"This is an important development in the expansion of our regional route
network as it gives us more efficiency in the use of our aircraft which will
enable us to continue offering the lowest fares. Tiger Airways is already
operating successfully to Vietnam on its
Ho
Chi Minh and
Hanoi
routes and the addition of Cambodia to our list of destinations will expand
our paw prints over more of Asia," said Tiger Airways CEO Tony Davis.
Tiger Airways has won additional valuable traffic rights between
Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City and will increase its flights weekly from its
current four to six flights a week from October 2005, making it the low fare
airline with the most flights between Singapore and Vietnam.
With the further expansion of its network, Tiger Airways will be able to
play a pivotal role in boosting regional travel and tourism. This will
create more jobs and investments in the travel and tourism industry in the
countries it flies to.
Mr Davis said Cambodia was an exciting new destination because the
country, famous for its
Angkor
Wat ancient temple complex, has a growing tourism industry. The
Cambodian government has also supported investment in the country's
infrastructure development including the new airport and terminal facilities
at Phnom
Penh.
Tiger Airways is currently seeking the necessary approval from the
Cambodian authorities and expects to start flight services shortly.
