Bangkok Airways will add two new routes to their ‘gems of Asia’ services
which will include Japan and
Malaysia links as well as starting more
convenient direct services within Thailand, it was announced yesterday at
their Happiness on the Beach function in
Sydney.
The airline, which celebrates its 36 th anniversary this year,
specialises in niche markets and offers one class prices and services which
include passenger lounges, meals at every sector and check in at its own
boutique airports across Thailand.
“The Australian market is very important for us,” Bangkok Airways Vice
President, Corporate Communications, Nandhika Varavarn said.
Passenger numbers for the first quarter this year has been positive with
a 27 per cent increase compared with the same period last year. The
airline’s revenue was also up 27 per cent from the previous year.
“In the past 10 years we have done quite well carrying 2 million
passengers,” Ms Varavarn said.
She said the airline was working very closely with Tourism Authority of
Thailand following the Boxing Day Tsunami which has affected visitor
arrivals to the country, as well as the airline’s passenger numbers and
revenue.
“This is one carrier that has supported tourism in Thailand very well; as
well as the Australian wholesalers and travel agents which have allowed the
people in
Phuket to get back on their feet,” Director for Australia and NZ
for Tourism Authority of Thailand, Sugree Sithivanich said.
Mr Sithivanich also said he had received positive feedback from the
Australian travel agents and suppliers that attended the recent Jetset
Travelworld conference in Phuket.
Bangkok Airways is now looking toward expanding its services to
China and
connecting world heritage sites across Asia through its network of services.
“We will expand to more destinations in Asia, and one day we say we are
the airline that really knows Asia,” Ms Varavarn said.
Bangkok Airways will fly non stop to
Hiroshima, Japan,
Samui to
Kuala
Lumpur, and Samui to Trat later this year.
