Turkey's southern city of
Antalya is expecting to host about 1 million
tourists to watch the total solar eclipse on March 29th, 2006.
''The total solar eclipse will be seen in a line extending from Brazil to
Mongolia. In Turkey, we will be able to watch it within an area of 160 sq.km
from Antalya to northern city of Ordu for four minutes. Antalya will be the
best place to watch the solar eclipse. Therefore, we expect nearly 1 million
tourists and eclipse chasers from around the world to come to Antalya''
reported by an expert from Turkey's Scientific & Technological Research
Council (TUBITAK).
Turkish Ministry Culture & Tourism Ministry reported that ‘Total Solar
Eclipse' that will be experienced at about 14.00 in Turkey can be observed
from any of the following cities in Turkey: Antalya, Konya, Aksaray,
Nevsehir, Karaman, Kayseri, Kirsehir, Yozgat, Sivas, Tokat, Amasya, Ordu and
Giresun on a 190 km wide eclipse path. Due to the climatic and
meteorological conditions, Antalya coast will be the best choice.
TUBITAK National Observatory will install telescopes in Akdeniz
University campus and in Manavgat town of Antalya. The following total solar
eclipses could be seen from Turkey on 30 April 2060 and 3 September 2081.
